Some nights, the hardest part of going to bed is realizing that the day is over but the problem is not. The conversation is still unresolved. The decision is still unclear. The money has not appeared. The relationship has not changed. The answer has not come. Your body may be tired, yet your mind keeps searching for one more thing you can do.
This bedtime prayer is for that kind of night—the moment when you have done what you can and still cannot make everything turn out the way you want. You do not have to pretend the situation is small. You can bring the unfinished pieces to God honestly, admit how hard it is to release control, and ask for enough peace to rest before tomorrow begins.
Tonight, the goal is not to solve every problem in prayer. It is to place what you cannot fix into God’s care and let your heart stop carrying the whole weight alone.
Scripture for Tonight
“casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

A Bedtime Prayer to Give God What I Cannot Fix Tonight
God, I am coming to You at the end of this day with things that are still unfinished. I wanted answers by now. I wanted progress I could see. I wanted to know what happens next. Instead, I am here at bedtime with questions and concerns that I cannot tie together on my own.
I admit that I keep trying to solve what is beyond me. I replay conversations and think of what I should have said. I imagine tomorrow and try to prepare for every possible problem. I look for signs that everything will be okay, and when I cannot find them, I start searching even harder. Part of me feels safer when I am planning, fixing, checking, or worrying, as if constant thought can somehow create control.
But tonight I want to stop pretending that I can carry every outcome. There are people I cannot change, decisions I cannot force, timing I cannot speed up, and situations I cannot manage from every angle. There are things I care deeply about that are still outside my reach. Help me recognize the difference between what is mine to do and what I need to release.
Show me if there is one faithful step I should take tomorrow. If I need to apologize, give me humility. If I need to make a call, send a message, ask a question, review my finances, make an appointment, or have a difficult conversation, give me clarity and courage. I do not want surrender to become avoidance. I want to do what belongs to me without acting as if the whole future depends on me.
And for everything that is not mine to control, I place it before You now. I give You the situation I keep circling in my mind. I give You the answer I wish I had. I give You the person I am worried about. I give You the outcome I have been trying to predict. I give You the timing that feels too slow. I give You the possibility I am afraid of. I give You the part of tomorrow that I cannot see.
You know what I am carrying without me making it sound neat or spiritual. You know where I am disappointed, where I feel powerless, and where I am afraid that letting go means something important will slip away. Meet me there. Remind me that placing something in Your hands is not the same as saying it does not matter. It matters to me, and I trust that I can bring what matters to me into Your care.
Quiet the part of my mind that keeps reopening the same problem tonight. When I start rehearsing it again, help me return to a simpler prayer: God, this is still Yours. When I feel the urge to check one more message, search one more answer, or imagine one more worst-case scenario, give me enough calm to stop. Let this night become a boundary between today’s responsibilities and tomorrow’s.
I also bring You the past I cannot repair tonight—the words I regret, choices I would make differently, and moments I wish I could revisit. If something can be made right, guide me when the time comes. Where I cannot undo what happened, help me stop punishing myself by replaying it without end.
For the future, free me from needing to know everything in advance. I would like a clear map, but often I only have the next step. Help me face tomorrow when it arrives without demanding certainty tonight.
I ask for peace in my body as well as my thoughts. Let my shoulders loosen. Let my breathing slow. Let my hands unclench from everything I have been trying to hold together. As I lie down, help me accept that rest is not irresponsibility. Sleep is not giving up. I can stop for the night even while something remains unresolved.
Please care for the people and situations I cannot reach from this room. Be near to those I love. Give wisdom where I have no influence, comfort where I cannot be present, and help where my ability ends. I choose not to make my worry the measure of Your care.
If I wake during the night and the same thoughts return, help me come back to You. I do not need a perfect prayer in the dark. I can name what hurts, ask for help, and place it back into Your hands again.
Thank You for carrying me through this day, including the parts that did not go as planned. Thank You for what I finished and for what I am allowed to leave unfinished. I am grateful that I can be honest with You about fear, frustration, and uncertainty.
Tonight I release the need to have everything settled before I sleep, to control other people’s responses, or to solve tomorrow before it comes. I place these things in Your care, not because I suddenly understand them, but because I do not have to carry them by myself.
Give me the grace to rest in the limits of this day. What I could do, I have done. What I failed to do, I bring to You with honesty. What still needs attention can wait for the next right moment. What belongs only to You, I will not try to take back tonight.
As this day closes, keep my heart soft and steady. Let gratitude have the final word instead of fear. Thank You for hearing this prayer. Thank You for being present in the unresolved places. I entrust this night, the people I love, the problems I cannot fix, and the future I cannot control to You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Closing
You may still have unanswered questions after this prayer, and the situation may still need attention tomorrow. But you do not have to keep working on it in your mind all night. Rest can be an act of trust: doing what you can, releasing what you cannot, and receiving this night as a time to stop.
If the worry returns, come back to one simple truth from tonight’s verse: you are invited to place your anxieties in God’s care. You can release them again as often as you need to and let tomorrow arrive in its own time.
